Paris has always been known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, from its sunny banks along the Seine to its distinctive cafes. It is more than just a location on a map; it is a place that exists in the hearts and minds of all those who have been touched in some way by its enchantment.
Over the centuries, Paris has inspired writers, artists, and poets not only for its elegance and grandeur, but also, and perhaps most importantly, for its ability to make anyone who visits, fall in love with it.
Yes, you heard me correctly. It’s impossible not to be smitten by its picturesque beauty, rich history, culture, cuisine, and art. There’s nothing to do: Paris enchants, astounds, and fascinates.
If I haven’t yet convinced you, let yourself be inspired by the words of those who have visited it, including poets, artists, writers, and thinkers.
This post contains some of the most lovely quotes about Paris. You can use them as social media captions or simply to get ideas for your next trip.
Now, get ready to embark on a journey:
1. T.S. Eliot,”The chief danger about Paris is that it is such a strong stimulant”.
Paris is truly a vibrant and exciting city. I was there for 5 days and was never bored. Simple activities, such as sitting on a bench, were brimming with magic, never becoming stagnant or dull. We tend to focus on dangers, pre-planned programs, and various preconceptions as a big city. But, whatever your reason for embarking on this incredible journey, let Paris take you wherever it wants to.
Be shook in ways you never imagined possible. My advice is to live in Paris while allowing Paris to live in you.
2. Thomas Jefferson,”A walk about Paris will provide lessons in history, beauty, and in the point of life”.
Traveling to Paris is like entering a time capsule full of memories, history, and beauty.
It’s a journal that can tell you about various aspects of human existence and, miraculously, help you remember moments in your life that seemed to have passed you by. It’s like seeing an old friend you haven’t seen in a long time, but he or she is still warm and welcoming.
3. King Francis I,”Paris is not a city; itโs a world”.
Yes, that is an accurate statement because Paris has everything you need. It is a mash-up of cultures, realities, ideas, and artistic movements. It’s like a small snow globe, a beautiful, imminent, and timeless mini universe.
4. Ernest Hemingway, “If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast”.
Hemingway spent a significant amount of time in Paris. With his phrase, he wants to emphasize how, especially for young people, living in Paris is one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. I was only in Paris for a week, but the indelible memory of those streets, the vibe, the people, and the environment has stayed with me to this day.
5. Ernest Hemingway, “There are only two places in the world where we can live happyโat home and in Paris”.
I had the same impression while in Paris. I remember thinking to myself, “I could live here too,” as I was enchanted by the beautiful buildings and lively streets. It makes me smile when I think about it. After living in Milan, a city that I always considered to be very distant from myself in terms of lifestyle, size, and frenzy, I would have expected a city like Paris to elicit the same familiar feelings in me. But that didn’t happen. In Paris, I felt welcomed, embraced. The sweet “Welcome home” echoed through the city streets, as if hidden in the breeze that tousled my hair despite the heat of a summer day. So, day after day, I let myself be led through its winding streets by that voice. And I was only happy, like I was coming home.
6. Henry Miller,”When spring comes to Paris the humblest mortal alive must feel that he dwells in paradise”.
My first and so far only visit to Paris was in the summer (a period I still recommend). However, I’ve always wanted to visit this city in the spring because of the wonderful descriptions in books and articles I’ve read online. If you have the chance, I recommend visiting Paris in the spring; it’s said to be magical..
7. Julian Barnes,”It took me some years to clear my head of what Paris wanted me to admire about it, and to notice what I preferred instead. Not power-ridden monuments, but individual buildings which tell a quieter story: the artistโs studio, or the Belle Epoque house built by a forgotten financier for a just-remembered courtesan”.
Paris has taken my hand and led me through its streets. I decided to abandon the metro more than once and follow the story that the city wanted me to read, alley after alley, street after street. There is an enchantment around the city that can transport you to distant times while keeping your feet on the ground. I’ve said it before, but Paris is one of those cities that I’ll never get tired of exploring or discovering.
8. Audrey Hepburn,”Paris is always a good idea”.
I have a funny story about this quote (presumably) attributed to Audrey Hepburn. As I was about to have my first real Parisian breakfast, sitting at the boulangerie table where I – later one – always had breakfast in the morning, with the window on Rue Monge, I remember thinking “whoever said this phrase was right“. I’ve always wanted to visit Paris but have never been able to book any flight. Let’s say the circumstances were more casual this time, almost a necessary detour. But let me tell you, no matter what brings you to Paris, it’s always a good idea.
9. Friedrich Nietzsche,”An artist has no home in Europe except in Paris”.
When I think of Paris, I think of all the artists and writers who have chosen to live there for a period of time. The atmosphere of the city evokes art, poetry, and a reminder of our true essence as individuals, and even those who are not artists can be inspired by the city’s magic.
10. Kristin Hannah,”I had forgotten how gently time passes in Paris. As lively as the city is, thereโs a stillness to it, a peace that lures you in. In Paris, with a glass of wine in your hand, you can just be”.
Finally, I purposefully left this quote until last because I believe it is extremely realistic. Paris is a vibrant, always awake, and always active city. However, I did not experience haste, stress, or social constraints in Paris. In Paris, I simply “was,” which is a luxury that we don’t always have. They say that in order to live a happy and full life, we must focus on the present moment, and in Paris, simply sitting at a comfortable cafรฉ, I felt free and serene.
I hope I’ve persuaded you to embark on this fantastic journey.
